Electricity cost calculator

The purchase price is only part of the cost. Estimate daily, monthly and yearly electricity costs using your own tariff, then compare another appliance.

Enter your numbers

Use the electricity unit rate from your bill in EUR per kWh. For example, 25 cents is 0.25. The example is not a current tariff quote.

Appliance A

30 minutes = 0.5 hours. Use measured average power where available; a label's maximum power can overestimate actual consumption.

Compare appliance B (optional)

Complete both fields to compare running costs on the same tariff. Leave both blank for one appliance.

Appliance A: 1000 W × 1 hours/day at €0.25 per kWh.

This estimates electricity for these appliances only, not your whole bill. It excludes standing charges, purchase price and maintenance. Actual consumption varies with settings, cycling, usage and conditions. A lower running cost does not mean two appliances do the same job.

How the calculation works

Daily kWh = watts ÷ 1,000 × hours used. Multiply daily kWh by your electricity unit rate for the daily cost, by 30 for the monthly estimate and by 365 for the yearly estimate.

For the illustrative 1,000 W appliance used for one hour a day at 0.25 per kWh, that is 1 kWh a day, 0.25 a day, 7.50 for 30 days and 91.25 for 365 days in your selected currency.

Can I use this for an air fryer or dehumidifier?

Yes, but use measured average power and actual running time where possible. Using a maximum wattage assumes it draws that power for the entire time. The calculator does not claim model-specific energy use.

What about a variable or time-of-use tariff?

Calculate each period separately using the applicable rate and operating hours, then add the results. Negative rates are not supported by this calculator.

Can it tell me whether a new appliance pays for itself?

It compares electricity cost, not overall value. Consider the price difference, whether both appliances meet the same need, maintenance and how your usage may change before making a purchase.
