The Shark Stratos IZ400UK is an older premium cordless design that remains relevant because it combines strong cleaning, automatic dirt sensing and Shark's practical Flexology wand at prices that are now frequently discounted. The wand bends forward so the floorhead can travel beneath beds and sofas while the user remains upright, then folds for compact freestanding storage. The main DuoClean floorhead uses two rollers for carpet and hard flooring, includes anti-hair-wrap features and works with Clean Sense IQ to increase suction when more dirt is detected.
This is not a lightweight stick. With the wand and floorhead fitted it approaches 4kg, and the chunky head and tube make it feel more substantial than a Dyson V12 or Shark Detect Pro. The weight is distributed reasonably well during floor cleaning, but lifting the complete machine and carrying it between floors can be tiring. Controls near the handle are a strength: power and mode selection can be reached without using the other hand, and the display provides a simple battery percentage. The flexible wand is more than a marketing feature: it reduces bending and also allows the vacuum to stand folded in a cupboard without a wall mount. The bin is larger than many slim cordless models and empties from the handheld body, though the wand may need to be removed first. Filters and rollers require regular cleaning, and the optional anti-odour cartridge is a consumable rather than an essential cleaning component. Owners sensitive to fragrances may prefer not to use it. Shark's UK support and spare-part availability are generally better than those of unknown budget brands.
Value is where the Stratos has improved with age. At its original premium price it faced difficult comparisons with newer flagships, but discounts can place it in the mid-range while retaining automatic suction, a flexible wand, strong pet-hair performance and a useful display.
