Apple Watch Series 10 review

Overview and generation status

Apple Watch Series 10 is Apple’s 2024 mainstream smartwatch, offered in 42mm and 46mm cases with aluminium or titanium finishes. It remains a capable iPhone companion, but by July 2026 it is previous-generation hardware: Series 11 replaced it in September 2025. That distinction matters because clearance listings can look attractive while sitting close to the price of a newer watch with longer quoted battery life and tougher glass. Series 10 should therefore be bought as a discounted model, not presented as Apple’s current flagship.

The watch’s enduring strengths are its slim case, bright always-on display, broad app support and close integration with iPhone services. Calls, messages, Apple Pay, maps, music, alarms, safety tools and third-party apps work more cohesively than on most cross-platform watches. It is not compatible with Android phones. Buyers also need an iPhone capable of running the watchOS version required at setup, so an old handset can become the limiting factor even when the watch itself is supported.

Health, fitness and medical limitations

Series 10 tracks heart rate, workouts, sleep, wrist temperature, activity trends and cardio-fitness estimates. It supports the ECG app in eligible countries and can provide irregular-rhythm, high- or low-heart-rate and sleep-apnoea notifications when the user meets the relevant age, region and setup requirements. Through watchOS 26, supported Series 10 units can also receive Apple’s hypertension-notification feature. These tools are screening and awareness features rather than diagnoses. A normal watch reading does not rule out illness, and an alert should be confirmed through appropriate clinical assessment.

Optical wrist sensors depend on fit, movement, skin contact, circulation and the activity being performed. Tattoos, loose bands, cold weather and high-intensity movement can reduce data quality. Calorie expenditure, sleep stages and training estimates are modelled values, not laboratory measurements. The review should not imply that the watch replaces a blood-pressure cuff, medical ECG, sleep study or emergency service. Fall Detection and Crash Detection are valuable safety aids, but they require correct settings, connectivity and circumstances and cannot guarantee that help will be contacted.

Battery, charging and ownership

Apple rated Series 10 for around 18 hours of normal use, with longer operation available in Low Power Mode. Real endurance varies substantially with cellular use, GPS workouts, the always-on display, calls, music streaming and battery age. Overnight sleep tracking is practical only when charging is worked into a daily routine. Fast charging helps: a short top-up can add enough capacity for sleep or a workout, but the watch still demands far more frequent charging than Garmin Venu 3 or Fitbit Versa 4.

Cellular models add independence for calls, messages and data, but they require a compatible UK network plan and usually an additional monthly charge. GPS-only models can still make emergency calls in some circumstances through a nearby iPhone or known Wi-Fi, but should not be described as fully independent. Bands are replaceable, and Apple’s accessory range is extensive, although premium straps, AppleCare and cellular service can increase total ownership cost. Water resistance supports ordinary swimming, but it is not permanent and can diminish with age or impact.

Value and verdict

Series 10 remains a strong choice for an iPhone owner who finds it meaningfully cheaper than Series 11 and values apps, communication and safety features more than multi-day battery life. It is less compelling for Android users, endurance athletes or anyone who wants to charge only once or twice a week. Compare the exact case material, size, GPS or cellular version, battery condition and warranty before buying clearance or refurbished stock.

The best-value decision is usually between a discounted Series 10, the current Series 11 and the cheaper current Apple Watch SE. Series 10 offers more advanced sensors and an always-on display than the SE, while Series 11 improves endurance and durability. At the right reduction, Series 10 is still one of the most complete smartwatches available; at near-current pricing, its previous-generation status makes it difficult to recommend.
